Adult Beginner’s

Adult beginner's karate

“A thousand mile journey begins with the first step.”

This class is designed for the adult beginner. We are very aware that people start karate for different reasons, be it fitness, self-defence, personal development or friendship. We are also aware that people start at different ages and fitness levels, etc.  The class structure allows for this and you will learn at a pace appropriate for you. As a beginner, you will learn the basic techniques of Heishin-Kai Karate and some of the etiquette involved.

Here’s what one member has to say about the Adult Beginner classes…

“I started training with Heishin-Kai at the age of 19. At the time my goal was to increase my fitness and confidence. Seven years later, I look back and realise that while both my fitness and confidence have improved, these are only part of what I have gained. Small things, like the day-to-day etiquette of the dojo, enforce the respect and humility that come to be second-nature to Heishin-Kai students. The many challenges, including both physical such as long rounds of kumite (fighting) and mental such as teaching junior students, have taught me how to step outside my comfort zone and strive to overcome any challenge. These skills to push beyond what is comfortable have often assisted me outside karate, whether it be running marathons or studying for exams. Heishin-Kai teaches students to be hard, strong and determined, whilst reinforcing respect, integrity, and a warm, friendly environment, where every student feels included and welcome.”
