HEISHIN-KAI KARATE

WELCOME TO THE DOJO

Heishin-Kai Karate-Do is a well respected martial arts school which has been operating in the Bentleigh area for over 40 years. We teach traditional karate for self-defence and self-development in a disciplined and friendly environment.

The Dijo was founded in 1982 by Kaicho Bob Curzon-Siggers who has trained and competed in many events and styles both in Australia and overseas, including Kyokushin-Kai Karate which is known for its strong fighting style. Since its inception Heishin-Kai has evolved to a unique style and organisation that holds dearly to the values of the masters of old.

KARATE HISTORY

The word karate comes from the Japanese “Kara”  (empty) and “te” (hand) which implies – “without weapons”.

You may often see the word “do” used after the word karate.

“Do” means “way” or “path” so the meaning of “Karate do” is: “way of the empty hand”.

GET TO KNOW OUR FAMILY
The meaning of Heishin-Kai, pronounced “Hay-Shin-Kai”, in its most literal translation is:

Hei

Peace / Peaceful / Calm

Shin

Heart / Spirit

Kai

Family / Association

So the name Heishin-Kai has two fundamental meanings:

Family of the Peaceful Heart/Family of the Calm Spirit

This symbolism highlights the peacefulness and calmness that comes from the skill and knowledge obtained through karate training.

INTRODUCING OUR MON
The Heishin-Kai mon is the family crest, all martial arts styles have a mon or crest.

There can be much derived from the Mon and what it means. At one level the Heishin-Kai Mon symbolises what is important to the style.

Experience for yourself how Heishin-Kai Karate can help push you to achieve more out of life. Explore the class options below and book in your FREE LESSONS.

This class is designed for the adult beginner. What you learn in this beginners class not only physically but attitudinally, will form the foundation of your ongoing development in karate training.

The Heishin-Kai children’s classes are conducted in an environment of fun and discipline to support the overall physical and mental development of your child. They will develop balance, coordination, fitness, flexibility and of course, the skills to defend themselves if required.

This class is designed for higher grade students who have built a strong foundation from the beginner’s class. The students build on those basic skills and at this stage the techniques become more flowing and natural.

Colin and Tanya Dickson

“Our son is 8 years old and has been attending karate for 3 years. Our daughter is 6 years old and has been attending karate for 1 year.

Heishin-Kai has been a fantastic foundation for our children, teaching them self-defence, discipline and respect. It has been great for our son’s confidence and concentration. The instructors are supporting and caring, and the knowledge they pass on is priceless. They really motivate the children.

The fitness aspect is also a great bonus. Most inportantly, BOTH our children love going to class.”

“Four years ago, our son Benjamin started karate with Heishin-Kai. Benjamin loves going to classes. He has met new friends, attended camps, and participated in tournaments and gradings. Heishin-Kai has helped develop Benjamin’s listening skills, self-discipline, and respect for self and others, while improving his physical stamina and confidence.

As a parent, I appreciate the way the dedicated instructors are always willing to provide feedback and guidance to improve every aspect of Benjamin’s progression. Heishin-Kai is like an extended family and we feel so proud and privileged to be part of such a wonderful karate school with strong traditional values.”
